Voter ID laws are very controversial right now in the United States. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was thought to have taken care of this problem of discrimination at the polls, but challenges still exist. Both sides, liberal and conservatives both have strong opinions on the usefulness of these laws. Conservative republicans believe that election fraud is an issue, and these laws help combat fraud at the polls, while liberal democrats believe the sole purpose of these laws is to keep minorities, specifically blacks, from voting.
